歡迎來到我的攝影項目的下半部分! 與上半部分相比,我更想重現更現代的角色,這就是我決定重現電影《甜蜜蜜》的原因。 這部電影的背景設定在80年代末到90年代初的香港,與《花樣年華》的服裝、髮型、妝容相比,有不少明顯的變化。 作為一部與《花樣年華》一樣擁有者苦樂參半的愛情故事情節的電影,我也想挑戰一下自己,看看我能不能把這兩部電影用不同的風格來演繹,同時忠於電影本身亦加入我自己的風格。
Welcome to the second half of my passion project! In contrast to the first half, I wanted to recreate a more modern look which is why I decided on the film Comrades: Almost a Love Story. This film was set in the late 1980’s to early 1990’s of Hong Kong, and in comparison to the wardrobe, hairstyle, and makeup choices in In the Mood for Love, there were quite a few obvious changes. Being a film that has a similar bittersweet love story plot to In the Mood for Love, I also wanted to challenge myself and see if I could portray these two movies in different styles whilst staying true to the movie itself but also at the same time add in my own twists.

起 // The Beginning

就像這個項目的前半部分,我也是想把關注點放在女主角身上,也就是李翹。 不過,除了刻畫她的角色,重現她經歷過的事情,我還想加入一些與小軍有關的部分,讓李翹有種嘗試在了解小軍內心的感覺,並嘗試通過她作為局外人的視角來體驗小軍的生活。
Just like the first half of this project, I also wanted to only focus on the female protagonist, which in this case would be Li Qiao. However, instead of just portraying her characters and recreating the incidents that she went through, I also wanted to add in portions that relate to Xiaojun as well, I wanted to make it feel like Li Qiao was trying to understand what Xiaojun was going through and trying to experience life through his perspective as an outsider.

這次拍攝最重要的方面也是確保我們能夠準確地重現她的服裝。與一直只穿旗袍的蘇麗珍不同,李翹在整部電影中穿了很多套衣服,在拍攝時有更多的選擇餘地。以李翹的性格和個性來說,因為她如此渴望成為“真正的香港人”,所以她一定很努力融入。也就是說她應該很注重自己的外表和當時的流行趨勢,這意味著她所穿的大部分服裝都是當時流行趨勢的準確寫照。不過,這部電影中最具標誌性的造型,非她與小軍在尖沙咀街頭騎單車,還是她終於在美國遇見小軍,或與小軍在車中親吻時的裝扮莫屬了。在所有這些情節中,李翹都穿著棕褐色風衣、牛仔褲和襯衫/T卹,而這就是我們最終決定的服裝。
The most important aspect for this shoot was also to make sure that we could accurately recreate her outfit. Unlike Su Li-zhen who always only wore Qipaos, Li Qiao wore many outfits throughout the movie, which gives more choices to choose from when executing the photoshoot. Taking Li Qiao’s character and personality into consideration, because Li Qiao was so keen on becoming a “true Hong Konger”, she must have tried really hard to blend in, meaning that she probably paid attention to how she looked on the outside and fitting into the fashion trends back then, so most of her outfits worn would have been a accurate portrayal of trends back then. However, the most iconic look from this movie would have to be her outfit from either when she was bike riding with Xiaojun on the streets of Tsim Sha Tsui, or when she finally met Xiaojun in the US, or when she shared a kiss with Xiaojun in the car, all of which share the same similarity of wearing a tan beige colored trench coat, with jeans, and a shirt/t-shirt inside, and this is the look that we ultimately decided on.

麥當勞 // McDonald's

我一開始籌劃這個拍攝,便知道這個項目必須從麥當勞開始拍攝,因為這裡不僅是電影故事的起點,更重要的是因為這裡是李翹和小軍第一次見面的地點,所以這個象徵著他們關係的開端的地方就變得很重要了。
As soon as I started planning for this shoot, I knew that this set had to start off with a shoot at McDonald's because not only was this where the story started in the film as well, but most importantly because this is where Li Qiao and Xiaojun first met, and I thought that it would be important to shoot here to symbolise that this is the start of their relationship.

實際上,要找到真正的80年代麥當勞工作服是不切實際的,也十分困難,但因為我想忠實於這部電影,所以我確保做了我能做的事情,就是在網上訂做一頂麥當勞員工的帽子。 雖然這可能是很小而微不足道的添加,但我覺得這是最合適的,它能夠為這個作品集中的服裝增添一些變化。
Realistically it would have been impractical and hard to find an actual McDonald's staff outfit from the 80's, but because I wanted to stay true to the film, I made sure to do what I could do, which was order off the internet a McDonald's staff cap. Although this may have been a small and insignificant addition to the outfit, I felt that it was appropriate and that it was able to add some variety to the set and change up the outfit a little bit from the other photos.

時間往前跳一點,這一幕是他們共度一夜後的第二天,互相問候新年祝福。 我認為重現這個場景特別重要,因為它標誌著他們關係的新十字路口,並且它顯示了自從他們在麥當勞第一次見面以來他們之間的關係如何演變了。
Jumping forward a little bit in the timeline, this scene was the day after they had spent the night together and they were greeting each other with new year wishes. I thought that it was important to recreate this scene in particular because it marked a new crossroad in their relationship, and that it shows how their relationship with each other has evolved since the day they first met at McDonald's.

選擇在這家麥當勞拍攝本身就是一個挑戰,首先,在香港很難找到一家仍然擁有復古內飾的麥當勞,因為大多數都是新穎的裝修,其次它的位置比較偏遠,所以從日程安排來看,在這裡拍攝並不是最好的主意。 但是我堅持要在這個地方拍攝,因為這不僅是最準確的寫照,而且因為這是香港僅有的幾家復古風格的麥當勞,所以我覺得有必要通過照片來保存它,以便在未來能夠回顧這個地方。
Choosing to shoot at this particular McDonald's was a challenge in itself because first of all, it was hard to find a McDonald's in Hong Kong that still had a vintage interior design, as most of them had already been renovated, and secondly this was located far away from the other locations that we were going to shoot at, so scheduling wise, shooting here wasn't the best idea. However, I insisted that we shoot here because not only would this be the most accurate portrayal, but also because this is the only few vintage-styled McDonald's in Hong Kong, I felt that need to preserve it through photographs, so that in the future it could be something to look back to.

單車 // Bike Rides

單車是電影中十分重要的部分,所以我想確保在這個項目中也包括單車這個道具。 話雖如此,但要找到像電影中那樣的單車非常困難,因為它不是我可以租用的單車型號,它是用於送餐的單車,而且越來越少外賣員也會使用這麼老舊的單車了。 幸運的是,我在四處找景時,偶然發現了一輛舊單車,雖然不是一模一樣,但我覺得它與電影中呈現的感覺比較相似。 這輛單車也被綁起來鎖了起來,所以我無法從車主那裡借到它,但考慮到所有情況,我能找到一輛單車並且拍下幾張照片已經很滿足了。
Bikes were a crucial part of the film, and so I wanted to make sure to include bikes in this project as well. With that being said, searching for a bike like the one from the film was extremely difficult because it wasn't a bike model that I could have rented, it was a bike for food delivery, and less and less of them are being used by actual food deliverers as well. Luckily as I was walking around location scouting, I did happen to find an older bike, and although it isn't the exact same, I felt that it gave off the same feeling as the one from the film. This bike was also tied and locked up so I wasn't able to borrow it from the owner, but given all the circumstances, I was just glad I was able to find a bike.

在某種程度上,單車對這部電影有著巨大的意義,因為這是小軍第一次透過載著李翹在城市裡轉悠而結緣。 雖然這不是最豪華的車程,但他們能夠花時間了解彼此,並最終發展出比「朋友」更深厚的感情。 撇開道德不談,這輛自行車在某種程度上象徵著他們愛情的成長。
In a way, bikes serves as a huge significance to the film because this was the first opportunity for Xiaojun to bond with Li Qiao, by driving her around the city. Although it wasn't the most luxurious ride, they were able to spend time to get to know each other and eventually develop feelings for each other that were deeper than just "friends". Morals aside, this bike in a way signifies the growth of their love.

廣東道 // Canton Road

廣東道是我想拍的主要地點之一,因為在電影中,這是小軍經常和李翹騎單車的那條街,我覺得這是一個很重要的細節,所以我想也包括在我的作品集中。 遺憾的是,我無法重現在廣東道騎自行車的真實鏡頭,但有路牌作為補償是我能想到的最好的辦法。
Canton Road was one of the main locations that I wanted to shoot at, because in the film, this was the street where Xiaojun would often go on bike rides with Li Qiao, and I thought that this was an important detail that I wanted to portray in my project as well. It's a pity that I wasn't able to recreate the actual bike riding shots on Canton Road, but by having the road sign as compensation was the best I could think of.

給她的電話和信件// Phone Calls and Mails, For Her

片中經常看到小軍給天津的女朋友寫信和寄信,雖然這部分和李翹沒有直接關係,但我想把這部分當作也是她的故事的一部分。我想讓她看起來像在經歷小軍正在經歷的事情,因為她一定也很好奇他和他女朋友的關係。我想在觀眾的腦海裡留下一個問題,李翹到底當時知道她應該在這段關係中維持著當「小軍的秘密」時的心情該有多複雜?
In the film, Xiaojun is often seen either writing a letter and mailing a letter to his girlfriend back in Tian Jin, and although this part of the film doesn't have direct correlation to Li Qiao, I wanted to include this as part of her story as well. I wanted to make it seem as if she's experiencing what Xiao Jun is going through, because she must have been curious about his relationship with his girlfriend as well, and I wanted to leave a question in the viewers mind as to what Li Qiao must have felt like, knowing that she's supposed to remain as a "secret" in this relationship.

除了給女朋友發信件,小軍還會經常打電話給她更新情況。 然而,開端的時候他說他過的生活很好是一片善意的謊言,最後卻演變成隱瞞和李翹的關係和對女友不忠。 再一次,我想讓李翹站在小軍的角度來看待這件事,讓她體會一下他的經歷。
On top of sending his girlfriend mail, Xiaojun would also give frequent updates to her through phone calls. However, those phone calls went from innocent white lies about how he's living his best life, to unfaithful dishonesty about how he's living a totally different life to what he's telling her and that he now spends most of his time with Li Qiao. Again, I wanted Li Qiao to look at this act through Xiaojun's perspective and have her experience what he's going through.

醒覺 // Realisations

當短暫的甜蜜假像消失後,他們意識到現在擁有的這段關係並不是他們一開始所期待的,並終於有了一次匆忙但坦誠的談話。 我想重現這一幕的原因是因為我覺得李翹當時擁有的的勇氣和狠心是我很佩服的。去離開自己的舒適區,並面對充滿障礙的現實比想像中的要難,而且這又是他們之間的關係中很重要的部分,所以一定要重現。
After the temporary sweet facade fades away and they realise that this relationship that they have right now isn't what either of them were looking for at the beginning, they finally have a rushed but open hearted talk. I wanted to recreate this scene because I thought that the bravery and ruthlessness that Li Qiao must have had and felt is something that I admire. To leave your comfort zone and face the reality filled with problems and obstacles is harder than it seems, and I felt that to recreate this scene was definitely something I had to do to complete this set, as it also marks another important stage in their relationship.

時隔多年,李翹與小軍再次相遇,埋藏多年的感情終於在一程車爆發。
Years later, Li Qiao and Xiaojun finally gets a chance to meet each other again, and the feelings that they've been burying for all these years finally spill out during a car ride.

Another jump in time, now that they are both located in the US, Li Qiao happens to spot Xiao Jun on a bike right before she's being deported and she tries to get his attention by yelling his name and chasing after him. I also wanted to recreate this scene because it was just a very memorable and heart wrenching scene, knowing that there were so close to each other but still didn't get the chance to finally meet each other.

我最後想重現的場景是多年後他們終於有機會重逢的場景,你可以從李翹的臉上看到幸福和喜悅。他們的感情最後會怎樣,會不會走到一起還不得而知,但我覺得光是他們終於能夠重逢就已經足夠讓觀眾感到欣慰。
The last scene that I wanted to recreate was the scene where years later, they finally get a chance to reunite with each other and you can see the pure bliss and joy from Li Qiao's face. The end result of their relationship and whether or not they end up with each other is unknown, but I think just the fact that they were finally able to reunite is enough to satisfy the audience.

片尾揭露李翹與小軍原來是同一天乘火車抵達香港的,而且竟是坐在一起。 我認為這個小倒敘是一個很好的回憶,並為結局增添了更深一層的感覺,所以我也決定要分配一部分在火車站拍攝。
At the end of the film, it is revealed that Li Qiao and Xiaojun actually arrived Hong Kong on the same day by train, and were actually sitting behind one another. I thought that this flashback was a nice recall and added more dynamic to the ending, so I also decided that I wanted to allocate a portion of the shoot at the train station.

拍攝這部電影與拍攝《花樣年華》有很大的不同,首先,這套服裝不太容易辨認,其次,我覺得我需要確保地點與電影相符,才能夠準確地描繪電影中的那些特定鏡頭。 兩次拍攝都有各的挑戰,話雖如此,但我非常喜歡這兩次拍攝,我很高興能夠在描繪出兩種不同的風格後加入自己的想法,同時亦能重現電影中的畫面。
Shooting for this film was a lot different with shooting for In the Mood for Love because first of all, this outfit was less recognisable, and secondly, I felt like I needed to make sure that the locations were true to the film and that I was able to accurately portray those specific shots from the film. Each shoot had their own challenges in their own way, however, I still thoroughly enjoyed both shoots, and I'm glad that I was able to portray two different styles whilst adding in my own spin and flare.
